The online course Linux Command Line will be organized by Austrian Scientific Computing (ASC) on 2 March 2026. ASC, formerly known as the Vienna Scientific Cluster, is a collaboration of several Austrian universities that provides supercomputer resources and technical support to its users. This course is targeted for new HPC users who might not have worked on the Linux command line before.

Knowing basic Linux command line commands is essential for working on high-performance computing (HPC) systems to navigate files, launch and monitor jobs, control the powerful computational resources, and automate complex workflows efficiently – and this is exactly what this course provides. The course participants will learn how to log in to the ASC systems and step-by-step they will learn how to work on the Linux command line and a few basic things that will help them to organize workflows on the cluster. The course is focused on hands-on teaching. Entry level is basic - no previous knowledge is required.
